It’s “Mud Season” again in Johnstown–“At Home Quilting”

This past weekend, was another Mud Season in Johnstown -  a cute town just on the southern edge of the Adirondacks – and the class was once again at the shop, “At Home Quilting”.  It’s located on Main street in Johnstown, and I know that I told you a bit about it just a few weeks ago, but want to mention again the great owners and their small but nicely supplied shop.  First off, it’s the long arm quilting machines that will grab your attention when you walk in– they will do the quilting for you OR let you rent time to finish your own projects, and will help you with every step of the process!

As for shop – they offer fabrics for the patterns that they sell, along with some very essential and different notions – one of my newest favorites  that they have in stock is the pressing stick!  Jennie has both sizes, the 18” and the 48”.  So, you don’t know what a pressing stick is???  It’s a slightly padded, cloth covered, long stick!  If you press seams, open or closed, and you use the stick to do this, then you will NEVER go back to pressing seams without it again!  I own both sizes.

But I’m getting side tracked – back to “Mud Season”!  Actually we had four Mud Season Quilters this time, one “Over East”, and one “Up North”, and you know what comes next, the photos,  Here they are . . . .

Lets start with “Over East” and Michele – this quilt is going in her “seaside room” – the sandpipers are always my favorite.

Michele

Now let’s go “Up North” with Laurie – Love days on the lake.

Laurie with Up North

Ok, back to spring and “Mud Season”

First is Laurie, who actually owns cows – lots and lots of cows! She has to go “round” hers up before adding them to her quilt!

Laurie

Then here’s Kelly (from Manhattan – but loves to visit the country)

Kelly

And Jackie – also visiting the country from the city

Jackie

and Kelly & Jackie’s country friend – Andrea – who did all the cutting of the critters for them –  a big thank you to Andrea! Smile

Andrea

Wow, the quilters got a lot done in this two day workshop, and I know I say that every time – but they really do!

Thank you quilters for a great workshop!

Adirondack Quilt Shop and “Mud Season”

One weekend ago, I traveled north to Glens Falls and to the Adirondack Quilt Shop (I call it the ADK quilt shop) Smile.  We had another “Mud Season” 2 day workshop, AND we were able to use the brand new classroom.  Just down the hall from the main shop.

Have you ever been to the ADK shop?  You really should go visit it soon.  It’s one of the brightest, largest shops in our area, and filled with everything we love!  Fabrics, notions, patterns, machines (be sure to check out the Sweet Sixteen quilting machine), and of course, Bailey the puppy.  Everyone loves Bailey, he is so adorable.  Even if you’re a cat person, like me, you’ll love this friendly puppy!

Also in the building where ADK quilt shop is located, are dozens of more shops! You could spend all day going from room to room seeing all the different stores and their offerings.  One of my favorites is the Tea Shop – any tea that you can imagine is available there.  The building address is 21 Cooper St, Glens Falls, NY – Go check it out!

But now I must do my “show & tell” about the four quilters and their “Mud Season” quilts.

First up is Karen – she was only able to hang out with us for one day, but she got the background (the main part) done and the sheep in the shed!

Karen

Next is Terrie and her cute red barn

Terry

next two are the “North Country” ladies – they live way up near Chestertown, NY – but it’s Mud Season up there, too! Smile

First is Kathy

And finally, Sandy (hiding between the barn)

I love all the raincoats and bonnets for the ducks!
Thank you quilters – I had great weekend!

“Mud Season” at A Notion To Quilt

I went “back over” to one of my very favorite shops on Massachusetts a few weekends ago (April 27 & 28) – A Notion to Quilt! Located just south of the village of Shelburne Falls with the Bridge of Flowers.  If you’ve read my entries, I KNOW you’ll remember me telling you all about this shop & village before.  And being that it was the end of April, I had NO “issues” driving over the mountain road to get there.  It’s a beautiful drive – it’s Route 2 and if you leave North Adams and head east, you’ll go up, up, up a very winding road with a hairpin turn,  over the top , then down, down, down the other side with another very winding stretch of road.  The view at the top is breath taking – yes that’s a cliché, but it’s the only one that fits!

So anyway, back to Mud Season at A Notion to Quilt!  As I said, the shop is one of my favorites, they have EVERYTHING that quilters love, lots of batiks, lots of modern prints, lots of landscapes, novelties, blenders, notions, patterns, machines, sewing tables, great staff – you see, everything!
The quilters in class for that weekend were making Mud Season and one quilter stayed one day to make “Molly’s Bag” Smile

You know what comes next – the photos!  And here they are . . . .

First up is Anna

Then our buddy, Janet

Unfortunately, I did NOT get photos of everyone that weekend – missing are Susanne, MaryAnn, and Sue – we’ll get back to them next time! Smile

At Home Quilting and “Mud Season”

I “visited” with some quilters from At Home Quilting this past weekend and as always, at a GREAT time!  Four quilters made “Mud Season” and one went with “Snowy Hideaway”.  At Home Quilting started as a long arm shop, (and still is!), but Jennie & Dan (0wners) are branching out and adding some wonderful fabrics and some GREAT notions!  The shop is located on the Main street of Johnstown, NY.  And for those in the capital district of New York state, a reminder that Shop Hop is coming up this Thursday thru Sunday, AND if you’re going to visit Gloversville, you really should stop by and say Hi to Dan and Jennie in their shop.  Exact address is 108 West Main St, Johnstown.  So punch it into your GPS and head on over.
P.S. they have four long arm machines to try out!   So if you’re in the market, check them out!

Anyway, I must show you all some pics from the two day workshop!

Let’s start with Cathy Jo and her “Snowy Hideaway”  Love the blue door.

Judy–the Lake Lady

Thought I’d share three very special “Up North” wall hangings with all of you.  They were made by Judy (the “Lake Lady”).  She REALLY loves the “Up North” scene and has a special interest in embroidery!  What do you all think?  My reaction was “WOW”!  Smile

And here they are – the first one Judy made was a fall scene . . . .
Can you find the chipmunk & owl?

Up North by Judy Bernhard

And what comes after fall? . . . . .Winter!

Another chipmunk (or the same one), Ice skates, hockey, snowman, and ice racing!  Very Cool! Smile

Up North by Judy Bernhard2 in the winter

And Judy’s newest one is a summer “Fourth of July”scene . . .
Can you find the sunglasses?
Love the hummingbirds! Oh No, what happened to Chippy?

If Judy comes up with a Spring scene, I’ll be sure to pass it on to all of you!  Smile

A Notion to Quilt with Snowy Hideaway and Up North

I traveled to my favorite Massachusetts shop on two separate weekends in the past two months.  A Notion To Quilt is the shop and I know you’ve read my past blogs about this great shop!  If you haven’t been there yet, you REALLY should plan a road trip soon!  They have everything and lots of it too!  There are batiks, blenders, modern, reproduction, novelty,  the largest selection of landscapes I’ve ever seen, and on and on.  And then there’s the notions, patterns, machines, long-arm machines, classrooms, and a GREAT staff!

The shop is located on Route 2, The Mohawk Trail just south of the village of Shelburne Falls, (known for the Bridge of Flowers- another must see)

Anyway, back to my workshops – most of the quilters decided to make Snowy Hideaway, but one worked on Up North.  And here they are . . . .

I’ll start with Dot, the “Up North” Quilter

And let me state that the quilters did these great wall hangings in TWO days!  Pretty good, Huh?

Log Cabin with Mud Season!

I taught my first class with my latest series of patterns which I call “Mud Season”, which is actually three patterns that may be combined to create one larger wall hanging.  There is “Little Woolies”, “The Cowgirls”, and “Rubber Ducky”.   I really enjoy creating patterns with critters! Smile

Log Cabin Fabrics is where the class was held – one of my all time favorite shops!  We had several quilters signed up for the class, but then the “BIG” snowstorm hit and we were down to four quilters.  Funny thing, the four who showed had the longest drive! Guess they REALLY wanted to make Mud Season!

And here they are . . .

First up is Carol and Ann

And next up are Stephanie and Nancy . . . .

And everyone, our “Mud Season” in the northeast is just around the corner – I’m looking forward to another season!

ZenDoodles

I’m a bit behind in my postings, and thought I’d spend some time to “catch up”!  I’ll start off with a half day class I taught in January, which I called Zendoodles!  Fun name!  Zendoodles are actually my version of quilting zentangles, which is an art form all it’s own.  I simplify it by saying it’s quilting and doodling combined.  Anyway, the quilters had fun exploring their free motion stitching and here we have the finished projects . . . .

the Zendoodle quilters are, Sharon, Mary and Melanie in the front,
In back we have Sally, Carol, Diane, Carolyn and Carolyn!
Great Doodling Ladies!

FREYR and weathermen

Can you guess what my blog is going to be about by seeing the title?  No?? Well, here’s the summary – Had a 2-day class during Freyr!

And the long version is . . . .

I was scheduled to have an “Up North” weekend workshop in Johnstown, NY, a drive approx. 1 1/2 hours from my home, and it was scheduled for 12/29 & 12/30.  Had it been last years winter season, I would not have any difficulties getting to ANY classes, but last year was a fluke!  So, the weathermen kept saying, the storm wouldn’t hit our area till late afternoon on the 29th.  Great, I thought, I’ll get to class, get them started and be home before the storm hits – and the next day would be good, too, because the roads would be cleared and ready for travel.  So, I arrived in Johnstown at 9 AM on the 29th and the snow started to fall.  “OK, well I’m here now”, I was thinking, might as well get the “Up North” ladies started.  So we all got busy and the quilters got a GREAT start on their project.  Actually, one quilter decided to make “Snowy Hideaway” , very appropriate I thought!   Around 2PM, I decided I better break off one hour early and head home.

Well, I made it home, both me and car in one piece, but it was a long process!  Approximately. 2-3/4 hours.  Oh well, I’m thankful that I live in the northeast where the road crews know how to maintain roads, now if we could have less of drivers who can’t drive in the snow, AND less truckers who still go 65 on snow covered roads. Oh well!

Yes, I’m rambling, and I did get to class for the following day, too – so lets get back to the Johnstown Quilters!  They really were troopers, all stayed and managed to get a LOT of their quilts made and as always, I have proof! Smile

First up is Jennie – she and hubby own the shop where the class was held.  It’s called At Home Quilting.  They offer long-arm quilting services (they have three machines), and they also have some fabrics, notions, etc, for “Just in case” circumstances.  And of course, a Great classroom area to spread out and SEW! Smile

So here’s Jennie with her “Up North” quilt . . . .

Salem Courthouse Quilters

Just north of Schaghticoke, in Washington County is the cute little village of Salem, NY.  AND like most villages in the US, they have a group of quilters, The Salem Courthouse Quilters!  Smile  They invited me to teach a pocketbook class on November 14th – and they decided to make the Julie Just Right Bag! Everyone went home with a finished bag in this one day class, and here’s the proof . . . . .
