Sue has been sewing for most of her life — starting at the age of seven — and it’s probably safe to say her sewing machine has never had much of a vacation since then!
Like many quilters, she began with practical projects: clothing, curtains, bags, napkins, and anything else that could be stitched together. In the early seventies, she decided to try making a bed quilt, and a whole new creative world opened up.
Then life did what life does — along came two children and a full-time office career. Quilting moved to the back burner for a while, although the sewing machine never sat idle for long. There were still clothes to make, bags to create, and plenty of projects waiting in line.
Once Sue and her husband became empty nesters, quilts found their way back into her life — and this time they came back with a twist. Rather than traditional quilts, Sue discovered a passion for art quilts, which perfectly combined her lifelong love of sewing with her natural talents for drawing and design.
While managing a busy ophthalmology office and working full time, she somehow found time to create as well. Since retiring, she has happily traded office schedules for fabric, creativity, and a little more thread on the floor. Today she spends her time designing and creating art quilts and patterns for her company, Sweet Season Quilts.
Sue’s patterns are known for being uniquely different, and many people tell her that her quilts “tell a story.” She especially loves teaching and sharing the tips and techniques she’s gathered along the way. Her workshops are filled with creativity, laughter, and enthusiasm — and participants often leave inspired, energized, and maybe with a few more projects than they originally planned.
Her newest venture is creating pre-fused laser-cut appliqué kits featuring her unique designs. Be warned: they can be hard to resist
